Match report by Cpt. Nathan Long "Away at Wanlip, and not sure what to expect as we had won ever other game so far fairly comfortably, and Wanlip had not had a score on the leaderboard at this point. Turns out we had some pretty tough opponents ahead of us... We had a debut for the LM2 team in the form Dave, and a debut for Trinity in the form of Alex, and they were very respectable performances at that. We started out the night very competitively, as it was 2-1 in games after the first 40 minutes. Was great to see Dave and Kirinam forming a bond, as they had won their first leg in a game, but found themselves 17-7 down in the second leg, assuming that they’d surely be taking it to the 3rd leg. But then they’d won 1 point, and another, and another! Until they were finally got to 20-19 up, this wasn’t through their opponents fault either, it was just a great show of consistent good shots, wearing their opponents out. I was ready to celebrate, just as Dave hit an unexpected unforced error.. ‘oh no’ I thought to myself, surely they can’t lose this now... but they composed themselves and smoothly won 22-20 😎 Now at 2-2, and with some momentum and spirit on our side it was feeling good. We battled hard, but just not hard enough unfortunately, as we couldn’t win another game from that point on. There was still a good level of competitive badminton taking place, they just had the edge. 7-2 on the night, 4 out of 5 wins for us, and 3 out of 3 for them, it’s looking like our hopes of still winning the league is going to come down to our next game (which is Wanlip again). I reckon we can take the positives from the away leg, and give em hell at home! Well done to all the lads that played, even though we lost, I’d say it was the best performance from LM2 so far this season."
A shame to burst their undefeated bubble, but a good lesson to learn in their first season, and some impressive fight shown. Hopefully the return leg at home, with feathers, will restore the balance and return the team to winning ways
