What's new?

Pairs were 1st Sam/Ruth 2nd Hitesh/Tracey. Great match, Harris turned up with 2 ladies in their team, so a few classic mixed games were played.

We both won our opening games, although both needed to go to 3 to secure the wins. On the switch Sam/Ruth took their game in 2 no trouble. Hitesh/Tracey took their 1st pair to 3 but couldn’t quite manage the win.

We were 3 - 1 going into the split! Sam/Tracey played as 1st pair and won theirs comfortably in 2. Hitesh/Ruth we’re against the stronger pair & unfortunately lost theirs. 4 - 2 win to us 😎 Lovely team & some great games played!

After looking at the league table, we were confident of an easy win.. how far wrong we’re we!! 😬

After last minute illnesses to Alex & Neil, and Ben coming back from back injury… the captain was frantically searching the globe for suitable replacements.. Luckily, we managed to sign up Sam W & Jacob for his Leicester debut and had no choice but to lump in Ben.

When we arrived, bright yellow plastic shuttles greeted the team, we were in for fun… 🤥

Sam & Daan played brilliantly, narrowly losing in 3 to the 1sts, letting the 2nds beat them to 2 and taking a much needed win against the 3rds 👌

Phil & Jacob played as well as they could against opposition who were used to yellow plastics, but came up short against the 1sts losing narrowly in 2.

They had better Success against the 2nds and 3rds winning both in 2, but again this wasn’t as easy as anticipated, the wins were definitely hard fought 😅

Ben & Darren - After also losing to the 1sts in 2 (21-17,21-18) we took on the 2nds. After going a game down (21-15 😨🫣😬🪓) Ben turned round to Daz and stated the obvious… “Daz, we need to win this 😨”

After walking off court, a change of racket and some confident boosting prep talk from Sam & Phil.. the pair snapped into 2nd gear winning the 2nd and 3rd game to 17 & 12 😅

Game is hanging on a knife edge, 4-4 and Daz & Ben to play the 3rds…

Easy win for the pair in the end, winning comfortably in 2.

We weren't sure what to expect from Central, but knew they'd had some similar good results to us. Ian had had a bad back and nearly pulled out of the match, but got himself to a playable state just in time. Tom also complained of feeling under the weather.

Dan & Chris kicked off, beating their first pair 21-13 21-10 and just continued in similar fashion taking their seconds and thirds 21-15 21-6 and 21-10 21-9 respectively.

Tom & Khalid squared up against their second pair, but forgot how to play for the first end of the night - losing it 1-21 (possibly a club record?). They at least started to find their feet for the second end, losing that one to a more respectable 13-21. They then took on the thirds and lost out very narrowly in the second end, 14-21 20-22. In the last game of the night they did manage to take their firsts to three, taking the first but running out of steam, the scores 21-17 18-21 11-21.

Ian & Shaz started by getting the job done on their thirds, 21-17 23-21. The rest of the night they fought but couldn't get anything else, losing the the firsts and seconds 15-21 13-21 and 14-21 17-21.

Overall, LM1's first loss of the season, but at 5-4 it should leave us top when there's no more games in hand with much better game difference. We have to do the job against Central next time to protect the promotion hopes though.
